Just caught the CBS Evening News report about a book called One Drop: My Father’s Hidden Life–A Story of Race and Family Secrets.
One Drop: My Father’s Hidden Life–A Story of Race and Family Secrets is the story of Anatole Broyard, written by his daughter Bliss, who discovered her dad’s hidden secret: that he was actually black.
Bliss admitted that she told “black jokes” in high school, and an African-American student got up and left the table. She felt bad and always wanted to apologize.
Blacks passing as whites have always fascinated me, along with the statistic that approximately 28 million people in America continue to do so.
Bliss is seemingly righting some wrongs by coming out with the truth about her father — which becomes the truth about herself, doesn’t it?
