News7dailynyc.com SCAM selling Home Income Profit System for $139.95 then $39.95 monthly

Comments (42)

Saw a scam ad, unfortunately on the site I write for, Examiner.com. I was reading another Examiner’s interesting article when I saw the scam ad on News7dailynyc.com.

Same old spiel about “Kelly Richards” making all this money online from some “Home Income Business Kit” they claim is only like $2.99 or whatever, but when you get to the “MyInternetCashTactics.com” scam site at this website…

https://www.myinternetcashtactics.com/c/GHD73H9D9IAK0/Default.aspx?itm=RDCA02&s1=43443&s2=515286&s3=908218142&clickid=07_106973538_44ec414d-f6cd-4a77-9e86-2ece84b1a5bc&vn=000138288

…then you click on the bottom “Term and Conditions” link, you see the real charges:

Direct Commerce Academy: When submitting this order, you agree to the trial offer for only the online shipping and handling fee of $2.97, which will provide you with instant access to our entire system.  Once your three-day trial period is up, you will be charged a one-time fee of $139.95.  Following this activation fee, you will receive a monthly charge of $39.95 for three months for full access to the training course.

The sad thing is all these websites that have accepted the ads — either knowingly or unknowingly, including Shine from Yahoo! and SFGate.com and other major players.

I see these types of scam ads on many major websites.

So the deal is — are there any sites to write for that don’t contain these ads?

Thank you many times over about the directcommerceacademy and it’s charges. I checked my visa and sure enough there were the charges, that I did not know about. I called the company and they said it was after 3 days, I needed to be assertive to have them removed. More people have to know about their tactics.

Pam Hodges  on August 7th, 2010

I am embarassed to say I was scamed by the direct commerce academy also. They put fake ads up to make you believe they are a real company. I read that once I received the materials and looked over it, if I wasn’t happy…I could get a full refund. I never received the materials and was charged the 2.95, 4.95 that was suppose to be free shipping and the 139.95. It all hit my account in two days. I called to cancel because I received a call from another company that made me realize this all had to be a scam. They wanted to more money to instruct me how to be more profitable. I told them I had never even received my information. To sum it up, they said they were going to credit our card, but we have not received anything yet. Scammed in Collierville, TN

jxnjerry  on August 8th, 2010

They got me too. I looked on my Pay Pal account and saw a charge for $139.95. I called the number and they said it was a five step program, of which I know nothing about. They offered me $70 credit back, so I”m going after them. It’s a Scam. I’ve never heard of the directcommerce academy. People will do anything these days to make a buck.

radslide  on August 15th, 2010

I am also a victim of this nefarious and diabolical scheme to scam people out of money. This company is only after your credit card number. I was under the impression that I was paying $2.97 for information regarding their program. Within 5 days I was charged $139.95. I called and talked to a person named Stacy, who did not speak very good English. He just kept repeating that I signed up for their program to make more money at home. He would not listen to the fact that I merely submitted the $2.97 to obtain more information about their program. Boy, is this a GOTU set-up…Do not send these people any money!!!!!

I just got scammed. HOWEVER, I found this website before any of the charges went through! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
It said exactly as reported. Pay the 2.95 shipping and handling fee and that’s all you pay. BS. Once I signed up, they wanted more and more money for upgrades and other crap. To post “links” etc.
Well, I got suspicious and googled the title of the scam. Well, I was led to this blog. THANK GOD I FOUND THIS before any money was charged! I called my credit card company IMMEDIATELY and canceled the account. I’m so glad I found this blog warning of the scams.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
Normally I’m much more savvy about this stuff. But this recession has hit my family hard and I’m stressing about having a job. It seemed too good to be true. And it was. I’m completely ticked at myself for getting duped in by the lure of easy money.

danielbell81  on August 16th, 2010

thanks for the warning. This is ridiculous that people could take advantage of people just trying to make a buck. everyone watch out

tom36  on August 17th, 2010

I was also duped.the direct commerce academy advertisement says for only 2.95 you will receive some information about how to make money online. Two days later there’s a $139.00 charge on my credit card that I didnt authorize. This just is not right.

brian87  on August 18th, 2010

I’m shocked at how this kind of thing is still going! Sadly I just saw this article after i sent in the request and received my direct commerce academy scam. I knew something was wrong when it took me to another link that asked for more money on the program. Luckily I didn’t agree to do that as well. I just called to cancel and yes, the lady didn’t speak english to well. My account hasn’t been put in yet but tomorrow first thing i’m calling to cancel before the trial period is up. Never again.

ms.marie  on August 19th, 2010

Im glad I started reading blogs. I had signd up cpl days ago and thought somethn was up when the email address didn’t work, then I kept gettn calls from people w the same accents tryn to sell me more stuff, then the sites kept askn for more money that’s when I startd to investigate. I called my bank n luckily for me no charges had hit yet so I canceled my card on the spot to avoid the whole mess…thanks everyone I dodged a bullet there

mugsy  on August 21st, 2010

Beware. Don’t try to better you family life by putting your name and number in to this web page. I called they told me that for $1.99 a month I could make it better, Shocking the sign on and poassowrd did not work. Call 1/877-304-1477 where some non english speaking person told me that it takes 3 hours to update the system. so I tried the next day and it is not working. called them back and once again a non english speaking person kept telling me the same thing over nad over again that the user name and password is not working and I need to call back later and it would be resolved. I procedded to ask for a supervisor, who was not available, and then I cancelled the wholehing. After about 10 moin he took my lst 6 digits of the card and told me it was canceled and to call back tomorrow to make sure. I threatened him with a credit card fraud lawsuit if I see one charge on my card. Luckily this card is a bank card that only has $25.00 in the account and there is no way they are getting anything from me. If you are thinking about trying to find a legit company to help you out make sure you don’t give them a card with a large open balance on it. Now to the BBB to report them.

Zoological4U  on August 21st, 2010

WARNING: DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM. When calling to cancel be sure to get a Cancellation Confirmation Code while on the phone. Do not let them tell you they will send it in an email in a day or two. Demand to have the code right away so your Credit Card Company has Immediate Ammunition……

jacevedo  on August 21st, 2010

I just got off the phone with these scammers talking to a man with an accent so thick communication was almost impossible. I had to actually get rude. I received a refund of $100 saying I still had to pay the 39.95. I will be contacting my bank for a stop payment on the rest. What a bunch of cutthroat sleazebags.

Christina  on August 21st, 2010

Direct Commerce Academy is a total scam…pls dont fall for it…I have lost almost $2oo.oo to date and possibly more if I dont close my account that I have had for many years, since I cant get ahold of the people that deduct the $39.95 monthly website charge…after multiple conversations…I still cant get their location..and I only have a utah phone number..but the money transaction..is from Belize…yes Belize…South America…international financial ????? you guessed it….BEWARE….

js37  on August 23rd, 2010

Just another total scam. Was shocked to see them charge my account for more than I had authorized.
Again, like others I didn’t read the fine print before I agreed to pay the 2.97 for shipped program info. I protested and only got $100.00 refund.

debbypie  on August 24th, 2010

This company just scammed me I just called them and asked for my money back I called a lawyer and he’s helping me please people don’t sign up for this

yvm75  on August 24th, 2010

Thank goodness I decided to research this further. Unfortunately it was too late for me because I already paid the 3 dollars for my kit. I saw the five steps, but did just that…saw. I came to this blog and quickly I called to cancel my account before I got billed. She claimed she canceled my account and a confirmation code will be sent to my e-mail, and I could not get her to give me the code while on the phone. So hopefully, I stopped it on time!! Thanks to all of your comments I was not scammed or at least not yet! Thanks a million.

fifi1234  on August 25th, 2010

I too signed up for this account. however, i got alot further. My fiance paid for it on his debit card. Luckily unknown to the company it is a prepaid card so no other charges could be processed anyhow. At first i did have problems accessing the website and did call which was no help. heavily accented people on the phone acted like they were reading off of a script and stuck on stupid. I finally figured it out on my own however. I am still inrolled in the program right now due to them not being able to process any further charges. I have gotten to post my first blog and my first link. However, after i had posted my first blog it said i had to upgrade my accnt to post more. I have had no other calls or offers from anybody but when i call the company i keep getting different numbers to call. the last one i called i left a message due to nobody answering and am hoping for a call back tomm. the last few people i have spoken to have been white with no accent and i have spoken to a supervisor whom was quite helpful. I am determined to get ahold of somebody and do this program with no more fees if it freakin kills me! at this point i am extremely frustrated but am going to fight till the end to get what these people told me i was going to get! i will post what happens but until then please pray and hope it works for at least one of us!!!

fifi1234  on August 25th, 2010

oh and if anyone decides to do anything with a card over the internet the best way is to go out and buy a prepaid visa from walmart and load it with only however much they are asking and no more. then it can be reused later for the same type of purposes.

i signed up for DCA too and i canceled the same day after i found out it was a scam im hoping they dont charge me anymore money :(

PISSED  on August 27th, 2010

I signed up dfor this and was also charged the $2.97 and $29.97 that I had authorized to be charged. Then I was charged the $139.95 vthat I did not authorized and then when you call they say that in the on line agreement you gave authorization to thake out the charge if you did no cancel in 5 days. This is so that they can SCAM you out of your money. Anyone looking at this needs to not get caught up in it. They make look good when is is something that is to get to you. KEEP YOUR MONEY IN YOUR POCKET.

smokeythebear  on August 27th, 2010

HOLY FREAKING GOD!! i too was a victim of this scandalous operation. i somehow cancel all my accounts that i made and did get charge all together about 15 bucks when i sign up. although i did give out my debit card information,i just hope i don’t get identity theft. i hope people would find out who they are and murder them.

milou  on August 28th, 2010

tnx for the warning i almost did this i am from the netherlands and live utrecht. on the ad i have seen this richards lady lives also in utrecht in the netherlands but on this ad she lives in new york i now see it is a scam ppl should be ashamed to do this to other ppl

kricket  on August 30th, 2010

This just happened to me, I am embarrassed to say.
I thought I was paying a 1 time set-up of $2.97 and saw the $139.95 charge in a “processing” state today through online banking. I called DCA and they said that I had agreed to the charge and that even if I changed my mind it was outside of the 5-day grace period….none of it was true. I never agreed to $139.95 and on-going $39.95 and the original sign-up was on 8/25 – so I should be able to cancel. DCA rep said all they could do was a refund of $40, blah blah….a total SCAM.
I will dispute the charge with my bank. BEWARE of any deal that sounds too good to be true – here is another example.

TCY  on August 31st, 2010

My wife was Scammed on this as well. Trying to dispute this with the bank. Don’t be fooled.

munchkinn69  on August 31st, 2010

I too got scammed with it. I called on the day I was charged the amount and they said they could only do a $40 refund. I the nwas online reading posts from people and somone from three weeks ago was able to get a full refund. So I called back and they said they stopped doing full refunds a week ago but got a supervisor to give me a $70 refund. I didnt even use the site cuz when I signed up I was busy and couldn’t go through all of it. Not to mention when you get angry and want something done like talking with a supervisor the rep got an attitude with me

charish69  on August 31st, 2010

Direct Commerce Acadamy is nothing but bullcrap. They charge you $140.00 without your concent. When you call the person you speak with doesnt even know full english. Im not being racial im hispanic and bilingual. But when i talk you can understand me! I hope noone else trys this you will get burnt!!!!!!!!!!!!!TAKE IT FROM ME IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

charish69  on August 31st, 2010

OH YEAH I GOT $100.00 DOLLARS BACK THEY SAID IT WAS THE BEST THEY COULD DO. I HOPE THE B.B.B. SAYS DIFFERENTLY

puzgrl  on September 1st, 2010

I also order from Direct Commerce Academy. After only one day of research I realized WHat a SCam.
After every site you log into it costs you more money. Thank godness I was still in the 5 day trial period. I called and cancelled. They said they didn’t generate conformation numbers, but the operater did give my her full name and agent number. I will only be charged the $2.95 not the additional $139. I will keep checking my credit card statement just in case.

Ellenb  on September 2nd, 2010

I signed up for Direct Commerce Academy on 8/26/10under the belief that I would only be charged the $2.97, I then called the phone number 877-875-6080 to see where I could read the terms and agreement so I would be able to make up my mind on wheteher to agree to the term. Could not find it any where. I spoke with a young man named Eric or Anthony and told him that I wanted to cancel. I was told I was not in the system yet but to call back in 24 hours, I called back the next day and I was told again I was still not in the system, call back in another 24 hours, was told again I was not in the system.ITold them again that I wanted to cancel. I was told it would be taken care of. I received an alert from my bank that I was over drawn, when i went to check on this I found out I had been charged $139.95. I immediateely called the number again and told them I did not authorize this charge and wanted a refund along with the o/d charges incurred, I was told that they would only refund $40.00, I told then at that time that I wanted all my money back and was put on hold, they came back and said they would refund the o/d charges. I spoke with a girl named Andrea at that time, and I told her that I would post it on Facebook, Twitter and anywhere els I could until I got my money back. I called back the next morning and told the that I was told repeatedly that I was not nin the system but they a[pparently had me in the system to charge my card, I said that I would report them to the Attorney General because they have committed fraud. I was told at that time I have been cancelled, but no mention of returning my money. I told them again I wanted my money back. I put on Facebook to stay away from DCA – Direct Commerce Academy. I’d advise anyone reading this to do the same.

anjel  on September 2nd, 2010

I received a phone call from someone named stanley from http://www.thedirectcommerce.com and i dont even remember actually signing up with them. the guy i couldn’t understand, and he was very rude. he just kept telling me that it would only be $1.95 to set up my account and that as soon as i gave him the information of my credit card to him i would be on my way to making money online from home. He also said that if i could do something as simple as copy and pasting, i could make well up to 800 a month. Now i know for a fact that its going to take a little more than that, so i got suspitious. So i startd looking and reading up on the program and, you guessed it, i hear all bad things. well i know one thing for sure, im glad i didnt give him any of my credit card info. thank you thank you thank you.

tmaldonado  on September 2nd, 2010

YUP I was SCAM them idiots I work for Law Enforcement and I am emberrassed to say I fall for it, but if I can do anything about it I will. I am going to look up the statute of scams fraud etc. Not to say I am from Las Vegas, NM. So lets see what happens. I still need to cancel my card. Good Luck to everyone.

braysmema  on September 3rd, 2010

It’s Sept.2nd and I just noticed on my Checking Acct ledger that they took out the 2.95 a week ago and then today they took out 140.05. I called them and just like you all they cancelled my subscription and gave me back 70.00. I was crying and so ticked I couldnt’ believe it. I was on the phone with them at 2 in the morning cuz I couldnt’ sleep. I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS SIGHT AND NEVER SIGNED UP FOR ANYTHING. HOW DID THEY GET MY PERSONAL INFORMATION. Should I call the FBI tomorrow. I am calling them again tomorrow and I am going to make a big deal out of this. They aren’t taking the money out until the 6th so I’m calling my bank tomorrow to see if I can stop them from actually getting the money. I am flabergasted, and can’t understand for the life of me how this happen and if I can get my money back.. I’m so mad right now!!!!!!

braysmema  on September 3rd, 2010

Just me again…if anyone finds out anything I can do, please email me ok. I want to nail there butts to the wall. It would be one thing if I knew how they did this and how they got into my personal info and my Debit card, that’s scary. I’m going to cancel it tomorrow. I AM SO FURIOUS I CAN’T EVEN SLEEP. I WOULD FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT BUT I NEVER EVEN KNEW WHAT HAPPENED. I’M NOT FINISHED WITH THEM. did they give you a Confirmation Code? They did me. Why I have no idea. Any news please let me know ok, I’ll do the same. Thanks

i too was scammed for $1.99….after i read all the bad comments about this site i rushed to my bank and cancelled my card and got a new one….im sooo glad i read this blog!….

gk1670  on September 3rd, 2010

I authorized 2.97 for information on home business through “The Direct Commerce Academy”, then they used my credit card to take 139.95 because I didn’t cancel in 5 days. Harold said they could refund 40.00, then when I got mad he talked to his supervisor and said the best they could do is 70.00. I told them to give me the confirmation number and I would still be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. I hope everyone reports them they need to be stopped.

linnhean  on September 4th, 2010

I also was scammed by this company. Now I am trying to get a refund. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and will not give up until I receive a full refund. Any paper that advertises this should be condemned.
I hope no one else falls for this fraudulent company.

Kate  on September 5th, 2010

I was a victim of identity theft. I was signed up for the accademy without even knowing it. I went to site and found this. I was charged without knowing it. Called the number and was credited back only $100 of the $139.95 and then was recharged the next day. Does anyone know if there is a class action against these people? Is there any way to stop the madness!

stupidasshole1  on September 6th, 2010

i too got taken. this ad was on my friends facebook. i thought it was from a friend of hers.
these people are no doubt from NIGERIA… that’s we’re all the scams come from.

milliemom  on September 6th, 2010

This company, Direct Commerce Academy, is trying to bilk me out of the $139.95. I talked to a “representative” of this company who could barely speak English and argued and taunted me for nearly a half hour before she said she would cancel my so-called contract and I would be notified by e-mail within 24 hours. Meanwhile my checking account has already paid out this money; being on SS Disability I cannot afford to be conned out of money. I was unable to notify the Better Business Bureau because I don’t have a legitimate address for this company. I can only hope and pray that my bank has better luck in solving this fiasco and that the end result will be to my advantage.
