Internet Profit House scam from newyork-tribune.net claims Mary Gonzales makes ‘$25 for every link I post on Google and I get paid every week… I make around $8600 a month’ BUT THEY CHARGE YOU $74.97 PER MONTH!

So I’ve blocked NewYork-Tribune.net from showing ads on my website — unfortunately, I can’t block them from showing ads on one of the website where I’m a journalist: Examiner.com — because that’s where I just ran into an ad claiming this woman makes all this money posting links on Google.

The scam NewYork-Tribune.net ad leads people to a link titled “Internet Profit House” which leads to the Google Home Income splash page scam, which, if you dig way down to the bottom teeny, tiny link, you’ll find how they are ripping off customers at $74.97 per month.

By purchasing this product…you are agreeing to purchase…at a monthly reoccurring cost of 74.97 USD. This can be cancelled by contacting customer service at (877) 585-7999…

These scams are ridiculous, with TechCrunch reporting about scams (see my previous post right before this one) ripping off customers at a rate of $1 million per day.

My own 88-year-old father fell for a couple of them, and now my sister will help make sure he’s out of them.

Besides warning people and taking the ads of my sites — perhaps I’ll be able to convince Examiner.com to remove this ad from their website as well.

It can’t hurt to try…

Oh yeah, if you’ve been ripped off by the scammers, you can try and call the phone number and cancel like my father did. But I wouldn’t trust stopping there. My sister is going to cancel his card and get him a new one. Plus report everything in writing.

Leave a comment with your experiences, please. Thanks.

I just noticed a $68.53 charge on my account…I thought it was 1.97 and as soon as I hit submit I knew I did the wrong thing. I already filed a complaint on line with the FCC and I suggest everyone do the same…it took all of 3 mins to do so! I am so afraid too that I will be hit on a monthly basis. I never did anything so stupid…what can I do????

PAULA  on November 3rd, 2009

My own dad fell for two similar scams. My sister is going to cancel his card and get a new credit card number for him — because he called and cancelled, but I don’t trust those scammers to really stop charging.

Make sure to get everything in writing that you report to your credit card company or bank and tell them it’s fraud.

jman2udude  on November 5th, 2009

i found a link for this crap when i was trying to get to an unemployment site for my state and i saw the ad for $1.97 I feel like a complete idiot now because they got me for the $68.53 or whatever it is. Is there a class action suit against these people, or some other recourse we have to get out money back? Or, at the very least, put them out of business for good?

Paula Mooney  on November 5th, 2009

I’ve seen a few of these places being taken to court — or at least found court documents online against them. But some of these operations are overseas. Try everything you can to get your money back — including contacting your bank or credit card company related to the card you used and reporting it as fraud. It’d be interesting to see if you can recover the funds. Also, try and call the phone number provided by the scammers that took your money — but other readers say they have had a hard time getting refunds.

Let me know what happens. My sister is going to cancel my dad’s credit card and see about getting him a new number for the two scams like this that charged his card. Thanks.

I feel for this one! My cc just got charged $68.53 when the ad showed just a $0.99 fee! I’m going to cancel my card and we’ve disputed the charge with our bank.

namastay  on November 6th, 2009

I did the same stupid thing: Paid the 1.97 and then they hit me with the $68.53. I was mad as hell and let them know it. But they didn’t seem to care at all. They got their money and told me it was nonrefundable. I think I’m going to call it credit card fraud and report it to my credit card bank.

I have lived in the small community of Advance, NC where Mary Gonzales is supposed to be living for almost 12 years and know most everyone here. As a matter of fact, everyone knows everyone and most of their business. If Mary Gozales lived here and had a Google career making that much money she’d be on the front page of our little newspaper. Ha!

Merycbell  on November 10th, 2009

I was also taken for $68.53…these thieves are raking in millions from suckers like us. I have reported this fraud to my bank but I really don’t think I’m going to get my money back. My next step is to report it to the FTC and The Better Business Bureau. I’m also sending a letter to FOX News…they’re pretty good at exposing these kinds of operations or at least getting the word out there for people to stay away from these crooks. You live and learn….thieves and cutthroats are all around us just waiting to pounce!

Hello, I fell for the same thing too. I was charged $1.97 for the CD that I got by mail and that I agreed for. I didn’t even go further on their website, and they charged me $68.53!!! And that’s with not viewing/logging to anything else on their website. So what I did is called 877-340-4694, and told the agent that I wanted to cancel the acct. right now. I then asked for the agent’s 1st name and ID #, and told her that I reported all of this to my CC companie. I also told her that I was recording our conversation as proof for my CC co. I then waited a few minutes called the number 1-888-300-5458 that she gave me in case I have further questions and it was a different agent. I told him that I wanted to cancel my acct. and when he looked it up, he told me that it had already been canceled. So I had his name and I asked for a cancellation #, wich they don’t have, so I asked for his ID #. Now everything is fine. They are not charging me on a monthly basis for anything at all! Oh, and for more added precautions, I canceled my CC # and requested a new one. If you don’t do this, they’ll keep charging you every month. Good luck to all.

they make it look so legit with all of those icons of CBS, CNN etc… a friend almost got sucked into it, she’s not too computer savvy but was desperate because she lost her job earlier this year and is just living off unemployment checks.
and ads like these really exploit these folks … i had to show her how much of a scam this is by googling blogs like yours !
thanks!

I was trying to cancel my subscription and they wouldn’t let me. Instead since I didn’t know of the 7 day grace period that was involed, they offered me a life time subscription to profit house with a special code and pin but i still canceled everything and reported them to the better business burea.

I feel totally stupid for falling for this scam. I thought I was only going to be charged the $1.97 for S&H(postage), Now I have received a charge of $68.53 which after contacting my credit card company; they instructed me to send back the CD, but my only problem is I can’t locate the address…Does anyone out there have the address? Please help me, thanks in advance.

VINCE  on December 4th, 2009

I have to agree with Ashley Margolis above about how the site looks so legit with all of those icons of CBS, CNN…etc CBS and CNN and the rest of them should be Ashamed !!!!!! they seem to be just like most of the scammers around they have about a hundred different Http: web sites with sourced out representative taking calls so you can never really get back with the people who initially stole your money. Any Class actions on these scumbags (TheFortuneDVD.com /Or/ the internet profit house)let me know I’m on it!!

UGH — I FEEL SOOO STUPID. I pride myself in being internet savvy, I spend hours online every day and devour over tech news and deal sites. So internet phishing and fraud should be EASILY detected by me, AND I usually do research before proceeding with offers like these. BUT I FELL FOR THIS STUPID AD. I had insomnia last night and didn’t get a chance to sleep, so in my sleep-deprived stupor this morning, reading through silly celebrity news (Tiger Woods’ scandal) I saw this “ARTICLE” — AN EDITOR’S PICK — from the NY DAILY NEWS…I thought to myself that this seems to be legitimate. Then I looked at the free trial price of 1.97, and I thought — well even if it is a scam, I would only be out 2 bucks.

I EVEN WENT ON TO READ THE FINE PRINT, AND SET AN ALARM ON MY BLACKBERRY TO REMIND MYSELF TO CANCEL THE SERVICE WITHIN 5 DAYS.

Needless to say, I figured it out immediately after I had pressed SEND.

I called in to ISPEEDWAY to cancel my order, and they even sent me a confirmation number to my EMAIL. My credit card statements haven’t had time to reflect the charge yet.

I’m not sure at this point whether I should cancel the card…. ANOTHER sad part of this already-tragic story is that this credit card is NEWLY activated. I am a college student, and this card was my first attempt at establishing credit. Also, I thought – hey, if this worked out – I could pay off my student loans which I am SO desperately drowning in…

HOW terrible that my FIRST ever credit transaction would be to this pyramid scheme….

WHAT AN ALLUSION FOR A SIGN OF OUR TIMES!

Crooks and liars feeding off of the innocent, vulnerable, working class.

OH THE irony…SIGH

mct1513  on December 7th, 2009

i fell into it 2. What are u supose to do to get it canceld? Somebody plesae help!!

bdarbs  on December 8th, 2009

call the number 1-888-300-5458 they will cancel your account. Some how if you agree to the free trial, you are also agreeing to the $68 monthly charge after the 7 day ‘grace’ period. what a joke. also got a new card number

gigi  on December 9th, 2009

These people are crooks. I’m out $74.90, plus the initial $1.97. I spent a whole day trying to get hold of them to cancel. They had my card charged before the 5 days, which I had seen in fine print only after I had given them the $1.97. There was nothing mentioned about any additional charges when I enrolled. Anyway, I reported this fraud to my bank. They are going to try and recover the money. I also got a new card.

ahbras  on December 12th, 2009

They even send a WARNING with the CD:
“Any Chargebacks made against this account will be reported to the internet cunsumer black list http://www.badconsumer.com and will result in member merchants blocking you from making future purchases online!

This is a THREAT to not have you call your bank to charge back your payment.

I called the company and requested my money back. The CC person said that she was emailing me forms, which have to be returned within a 7 days. Otherwise I would not get my money back.

I have, as yet, not received any email.

I think I WILL call my bank and demand a “chargeback”. I dont care if any/all of their members deny my business. I dont think that any of “their” members would have anything that I would want to purchase online anyway. This really pisses me off.

kazzaka  on December 16th, 2009

what a scam of the decade. I will pursue justice and will let you all know how it turns out. I am actually quite scepticle about these blogs too! as no one actually mentions what the result was to their findings. My bank tells me its no use in cancelling your account as the terms and conditions you signed binds your bank to make these monthly installments unless u cancell with the company direct. and what are chances of them cancelling your subscribtion before they take out a couple of installments..

cmarquis  on December 22nd, 2009

Yep, me too I knew better, even looked close to see that there would be no further charges, just 1.98, I trusted the site where I found the ad, The person who was said to be making all the money was said to be from the town where I live.I check my credit card account frequntly online, three das after the $1.97 charge there was another for $68.53. I immediatly called my credit card company and disputed the second charge, telling that I had oked the 1.97 but had not authorized any other charges. They issued me credit for the 68.53. Shortly there after I received an email from internetprofit house saying my account was canceled. On Dec. 4 there was another 68.53 charge, this time with no name, just a number. I called my C C again to ask who the payment was to and they suggested I call the number I did and it was internet profit house. I asked for a refund and was told they did not process refunds. I again called my C C and have been credited with a conditional 68.53

Luckily my credit card company noticed it at as not normal activity on my account and they froze my account. I was able to go back and tell them they were not my charges and they closed my account, before I ever got billed for them. I was lucky. So watch out for what you think seems to good to be true.

Momma Sue  on January 21st, 2010

I to fell for this and they keep charging my account I never even used the sight and I can’t find it to log into. I called them and canceled in Dec. and now in Jan . they are still withdrawaling money from my account…

Patrickdavisf  on February 2nd, 2010

I was able to get them to reverse all charges except for the 1.97 initial charge. I sent them a email of making fraudulant charges against my account to their cacellations dept and indeed they reversed the charges and I notified my bank. Now I am keeping a eye out for any new charges. I must say their advertisement look very real and until itried researching the news story company that they said recommended them was fake……. I must say very slick people

rcfunmachines.com  on February 5th, 2010

Has anyone actually tried their product? I see a lot of outlandish comments here about internetprofithouse’s billing procedures but nothing at all about their service! I use their service and think it is fabulous. They teach everything you would ever need to know to become an internet marketing success in a 12 week process. They give you the equivalent of a masters degree in online marketing in three months and for $230 I’d say it’s a Hell of a deal! If any of you undereducated morons actually quit your bitching for just a few hours and actually tried to use the service and learn how to better yourself and become successful you would never need to post here again. But I can see you’d rather bolster your egos at a profitless pity party than step up and get ahead in life. Sorry chumps, you just can’t see what you have to gain, but you don’t like to lose. Seems like you’re living an oxymoron to me. If you need to know what “oxymoron” means try wikipedia.org Good luck with all your pissing and moaning. You’ll be buying shit from me online soon enough and I will serve you all with a smile knowing you are losers. And you won’t even know you are lining my pockets but I will know who you are because I will have all of your IP addresses and emails to add to my internet marketing campaign thanks to what I have learned from internet profit house.

Don’t be fooled like I was! I signed up for what I had no idea was the trial period because my husband said it looked legitimate. I just now was wondering why our credit card statements have been so high. Bingo – this company has stolen $68.53 of my hard earned dollars for the past 4 months. By the way, the name of the company taking the money was different every single month. If that is not a scam, I don’t know what is. Also for newcomers the trial period has bben shortened to 5 days and the monthly fee increased to #79.97. It makes me sick to think of the money that I wasted.

In addition to the course which is about $60+, there is an additional charge for support services which is monthly. This was not clear when I ordered, and it was explained to me after i inquired why it on my account. Support cost is the cost to maintain a help desk when folks call for assistance in getting through the course. I was able to follow it by myself and they removed the charge immediately. However, I did get a second call and the gent was very demanding, as if his job was contingent on pushing sales. The actual InternetProfitHouse course is a useful tool.

cplanie  on February 21st, 2010

There are 3 different offers on the same website. The InternetProfithouse, another called Fast Cash on the Internet, and the support service. Yes, all three were from basically the same place but different. For the Fast Cash on the Internet, I called and was told that if I could download the information to my desktop that was free and then cancel. I did this and they refunded me for that as well.

I was very clear to them, that this was worded in a way that was NOT clear that these were monthly charges. Shame on them. Still, I got what I needed.

If you still have internet profit house, it is yours forever, however, it seems they do maintenance on Sunday/Mondays.

I make $.33 on my Google links when they get hit. LOL…i don’t plan on getting rich soon.
