Internet, Email Scams – Top New 2009 Internet, Email Scams List Include Easy Google Cash, Email Scams with Virus Links — And There are Still Phone Scams Trying to Get Customers’ Credit Card Verification CCV Numbers…
I’ve been doing so much research on internet scams as of late I feel like I could nearly write a book on web scams. And since “internet scams” and “email scams” and “internet scam check” or some derivation thereof including the word scam is searched for over 45,000 times daily by wary customers checking into frauds — I figured it was time to write about the latest 2009 internet, phone and email scams I’ve seen.
2009 Top Internet Scams Still Include “Easy Google Cash” Promises of Tons of Money, Authentic-Looking Newspaper Ads, Fake Promises of “As Seen on CNN” and Costs of Only $1.89 to Steal a Credit Card Number
So the main Internet scams in 2009, lingering from a few years ago, are people still creating websites and Photoshopping fake Google checks and stuff, promising to tell people the secret of making $5,000 to $7,000 per month or week if they’d only pay 2 bucks or something — but in the fine print (if they even print it) the real charges of $50 or $80 per month are hidden that they charge customer’s credit cards after a few days and make it difficult if not impossible to cancel.
Customers who’ve been hit with these scams are advised to cancel the credit card so the thieves can’t charge any more debt to them.
Top Internet Scams of 2009 Use Official-Looking Newspaper Pop-Up Ads Like Miami Gazette and Los Angeles Tribune — Or Real Looking Blogs

Perhaps You've Seen This Scam Pop-Up Ad?
The scammer go all out to create real newspaper looking internet sites like the one pictured above to make their scam seem real — lying and saying “as seen on CNN” or whatever — and making it seem like a person from your town is doing this and making all this money.
It’s a lie.
Top 2009 Email Scams Include Facebook, Twitter, and Tagged Email Scams
The new 2009 email scams have all been about trying to get people to click on links within the emails that download malicious spyware — like email scams in 2009 that pulled names from people’s friends or followers or connections or whatever in social networks, and made it seem like someone they knew of Facebook or Twitter or Tagged or whatever had sent them funny pictures:

In some instances, malicious spyware found itself onto computers due to this type of email scam — spyware that can track credit card info entered or other keystrokes that you type in like passwords and such.
New Phone Scam for 2009:
My sister works closely with credit cards, and has had to cancel customers’ credit cards who’ve fallen for this new scam I heard about in 2009:
A person from a grocery store, retail shop, eatery, or wherever you pay with your credit card has your name already — then gets your phone number somehow.
Later, pretending to be an official with the credit card company, calls up and says, “Hello, I’m with Master Card and I’m calling John Doe. We see your account # is blah, blah, blah and we’ve found unauthorized charges for $188 on your credit card.”
By now, the scammers are hoping the people are so flustered and angry over the so-called bad charges that they really believe the person is from MasterCard. Then comes the scam:
“Okay, I’m going to reverse these charges — but first let me verify the 3-digit CCV number on the back of your card first.”
Some people, unfortunately, give the thief their CCV number — and he’s off and running to the races with the info he needs to start charging stuff. Never give anyone who CALLS YOU your CCV number. Only give that to reputable places like Amazon.com or wherever that YOU initiate, not the other way around.
Visa or MasterCard won’t need to ask for your CCV — they already have it! And if someone claims unauthorized charges are on your card, check into your own charges yourself at your credit card company’s website or by calling the number on the back of your card, and if any are found, cancel the card.
Where to report scams…
Google “Report Internet Crimes” to find the FBI’s website to report online crimes, and contact the Better Business Bureau as well and give as detailed information as possible.
Also, call your credit card company to report unauthorized charges from unscrupulous scammers.
Invest in great virus protection software like Norton and McAfee to keep your PC up-to-date and protected from bad sites.
Be vigilant, Google everything with “scam” next to it to see if anyone has written about it.
Keep up with the newest scams in 2009 and beyond by…
