How much money can 9 months of writing online pay a blogger-webmaster-writer? $22,620.34 in 2011 so far…

by Paula Mooney on October 3, 2011

When I kissed my husband like that, the photog told me to "Keep it Disney."

Seems like I update my income every quarter instead of monthly these days.

Well, the first 9 months of 2011 have brought in $22,620.34 — a sum total of monies paid to me via the variety of places listed below, in order of the highest-paying entities (at least to me during that period) down to the lowest.

Don’t get me wrong, some people like Spencer Haws make about $15k per month using Google Adsense, so it’s all in how you use it.

Three months ago I wrote about taking in $16,564.67 in the first 6 months of 2011, and how even though these earnings average out to an annual salary of around $30k, that doesn’t mean my income will be limited to that at all.

And come to think of it, it hasn’t — plenty of other offline opportunities have brought me prosperity this year.

When will my income go up???!!!!

Having grossed over $50,000 in 2010, I naturally assumed my income would continue to rise each year. And hopefully that’s still a good assumption.

I have faith…

It’s just that when you read about all these Internet superstars making $10k per month or more, you’d think I’d be there by now.

I can’t fret, Pet, as my mom used to say.

Part of the income decrease came from Google Panda hitting places like Examiner.com so that pageviews aren’t as easy to obtain as they used to be.

See the income numbers and compare it to some of my older posts:

Date Description Amount

1/20/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $1,530.39
2/18/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $1,946.98
3/18/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $1,699.48
4/20/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $743.64
5/20/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $1,094.30
6/20/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $1,803.38
7/20/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $614.64
8/19/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $614.18
9/20/2011 Clarity Digital Group, LLC $1,300.54

Total Examiner.com Payments $11,347.53

But at least that change is helping force me into new arenas — like researching how to make iPhone apps and the like.

That new venture of app-making is going along in conjunction with the niche website-building that is helping increase my Adsense income — in both allowed accounts:

1/25/2011 Google Adsense $526.58
2/25/2011 Google Adsense $452.37
3/25/2011 Google Adsense $364.18
4/27/2011 Google Adsense $522.23
5/25/2011 Google Adsense $571.46
6/24/2011 Google Adsense $571.53
7/26/2011 Google Adsense $199.79
7/26/2011 Google Adsense $546.37
8/24/2011 Google Adsense $246.85
8/24/2011 Google Adsense $481.46
9/26/2011 Google Adsense $272.72
9/26/2011 Google Adsense $496.38

Total Google Adsense $5,251.92

And there’s still old trusty Amazon, chugging along and getting ready for the Christmas boost:

1/26/2011 Amazon $1,144.06
2/26/2011 Amazon $705.51
3/26/2011 Amazon $768.81
4/26/2011 Amazon $391.68
5/26/2011 Amazon $157.39
06/27/2011 Amazon $264.50
07/26/2011 Amazon $424.72
08/30/2011 Amazon $258.25
09/27/2011 Amazon $96.71

Total Amazon Payments $4,211.63

I still haven’t written much for Yahoo! — as witnessed by these numbers. They kinda pissed me off when I went through the “Featured Contributor” application process but my first entertainment article was rejected. Granted, I did see the two incorrectly spelled words in an article I slaved over once they pointed them out. It just meant that wasn’t the right path at that time. I may go for the financial one later:

1/12/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $128.26
2/8/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $124.59
3/9/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $121.73
4/13/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $72.69
5/11/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $75.20
6/8/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $87.90
7/12/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $82.23
8/11/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $53.89
9/13/2011 Yahoo! Contributor Network $49.38

Total YCN Payments $795.87

Kontera actually called me on my cell phone the other day and asked if I’d reconsider them after I pulled off most of my Kontera code once I saw one of those scam “LA-Sentinel.com” ads triggered on my website. I told them I might just pop the code back in and see if it triggers any ads again. I think some of these places know exactly what’s going on — it’s like a big old open net secret:

2/3/2011 KONTERA $97.43
4/1/2011 KONTERA $107.06
6/1/2011 KONTERA $223.04

TOTAL KONTERA $427.53

CJ.com came through with some payments after I found an automated way to blog about a lot of Ulta Beauty products — love that store! — but then it seemed like my Where to Buy Online site got a little Panda sandboxed or something, so it doesn’t get as many searches — and therefore, not as many sales as before — however, at least some Groupon affiliate sales came thru big time:

1/20/2011 COMMISSION JUNCTION $69.54
3/18/2011 COMMISSION JUNCTION $54.80
08/19/2011 COMMISSION JUNCTION $53.00
09/20/2011 COMMISSION JUNCTION $82.10

Total CJ.com payments $259.44

Izea (formerly PayPerPost) has been a beautiful and bountiful blessing lately, and these numbers below don’t tell the whole story.

After first joining PayPerPost back in 2006 — Wow! They were the ones who inspired me to record and upload my very first YouTube video on December 29, 2006 (see the craziness below) — I wrote a post or few for them here and there for 15 bucks, etc.

Then I kind of gave up on them…people wrote so much about how PayPerPost could hurt your Google Pagerank — and Michael Arrington just hated them.

Perhaps in my state of desperation I looked back into Izea this year, and thank GOD I did. They made my website a notable one, and advertisers have been giving me great opportunities, from the wonderful Kalahari vacation they paid me to take (and let me bring my family of four) that included so many free goodies, to Tresemme swag and beyond, I…am…loving…them.

Expect these numbers to rise:

9/22/2011 IZEA, Inc. $50.00
9/29/2011 IZEA, Inc. $65.00

Total IZEA Payments $115.00

My YouTube video I did 5 years ago for PayPerPost:

I see eBay Partner Network has paid me bits and trickles throughout the year, every time people click on enough of the links and widgets regarding eBay products I write about:

3/20/2011 eBay Partnr Net PAYMENTS $25.22
08/25/2011 eBay Partnr Net PAYMENTS $25.67

Total eBay Partner Network $50.89

Nothing to write home about, as my grandma would say.

Linkshare is another trickle — I guess I should research how I got that nearly 40 bucks earlier this year:

1/24/2011 LINKSHARE $3.81
2/7/2011 LINKSHARE $39.38
2/28/2011 LINKSHARE $2.90
5/6/2011 LINKSHARE $1.25
6/6/2011 LINKSHARE $1.25
6/26/2011 LINKSHARE $1.45

Linkshare Total: $50.04

I know it’s usually from Wal-Mart sales or iTunes stuff.

Still got the 40 bucks from the place that helped me set up an LLC, so I recommend them to folks:

5/31/2011 THE COMPANY CORPORATION $40.00

Then there were the Text Link Ads that people would pay to run on my blogs, but seeing as though there was no 9/1/2011 payment, I guess no one is running those ads right now:
1/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $4.25
2/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $4.25
3/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $4.25
4/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $4.25
5/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $4.25
6/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $7.65
7/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $4.67
8/1/2011 Text Link Ads, Inc $2.97

Text Link Ads total: $36.54

And lastly, I got paid a good commission for writing about the Amazonian Profits book from Wanda and Paula on 50 Over $50k

9/8/2011 WSPC Enterprises $33.95

So take whatever inspiration you can from these numbers and press forward, blogging soldier.

Hi Ter – Yes, I haven’t been writing a lot for Examiner lately (I go back and forth) but whatever my earnings are listed at are correct — you know how we get paid around the 20th of each month for the prior month’s earnings, so I know one month I got lots of views for the Examiner Christian TV channel and that helped boost my income.

I don’t know what I’m up to now but I will report more current earnings…plus, I still get views on stuff I’ve written since 2009, when I began writing for Examiner, so that helps, along with any referrals which may be a couple of hundred a month. I don’t know what’s referrals and what’s incentive earnings.

Hi Paula, I just saw your post on your other blog and I think you have answered my question here.

I’m just curious! I noticed that on your Examiner accounts you have listed, you are still making $1,200 to $1,600 a month while only doing 2-3 posts a month. How are you doing that….or are you making a lot of money off of referrals? I also don’t know if all of your posts are showing on that list so that’s another possibility, of course.

Thanks for always being so willing to share your information with the world.

Continued success to you….

Paula this seems to be great and working for you perfectly ! Would be eager to know how to make a meager $100 in a calendar month. I have been struggling for quite some time now…Thanks!
