Dominick Dunne, Dead at Age 83 – His daughter’s death launched his magazine writing career
Even though Dominick Dunne was 83 when he died today in New York City from bladder cancer — Dominick Dunne was one of those people that I just didn’t expect to die.
Such a vivacious man and writer, even when Dominick Dunne described the horrific murder of his daughter, actress Dominique Dunne, who was strangled by a deranged fan, he did it with emotion that was real and raw and honest.
I remember seeing him on Regis & Kelly, describing the way that “big horrible man lifted her up” and strangled his slight daughter by the neck in a manner that bespoke of fatherly rage and anguish.
He wrote a long list of crime books, gobbled up by the masses intrigued with his writing and researching style and passion of the topic.
He’s a great writer that will be missed.
I hope he is reunited today in heaven with his beloved daughter that fueled his need to avenge her death.
And launched a career that sought to bring justice to victims, and explain crimes in a way that no other writer did.
