Danny Gans Cause of Death Finally Found to be Acute Hydromorphone Toxicity

by Paula Mooney on June 19, 2009

Finally, we’ve got a cause of death result for Danny Gans: Acute hydromorphone toxicity.

The coroner did not use the word overdose. For more information on acute hydromorphone toxicity, read the reports here.

Thanks for the comment from Emet below leading me to this Danny Gans interview with Bonnie Hunt:

Casino City Times reports that Danny Gans’ autopsy showed no cause of death — and says that it could be up to a month before the cause of death is specified.

Michael Murphy, the Clark County Coroner, has said that it may take “several weeks” to determine Danny Gans’ cause of death…and the Sun Sentinel is reporting that his good friend said Danny Gans was in apparent good health, didn’t use drugs and didn’t smoke. So his fans are even more anxious to understand what took Danny Gans’ seemingly so early from this earth.

I was just amazed to read that the talented and well-loved Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans has died at the age of only 52 years old.

“I wanted to see him,” my husband just said. He’d already read the news about Danny Gans’ death, and I’d just found out. So I immediately went searching for the cause of Danny Gans’ death, and TMZ is reporting that an autopsy to determine Danny Gans’ cause of death will be performed on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

How soon after Danny Gans’ autopsy will authorities release the findings is another story.

I feel sorry for Danny Gans’ wife and three children — I seriously pray they can be comforted right now thru their pain, in knowing that Danny Gans’ was a born-again Christian whose act was in line with his faith. He was supremely talented, as those of us who only got to watch parts of his act on TV can attest to; just imagine the folks who got to see Gans in person!

When I read that Gans’ was experiencing shortness of breath, I immediately thought that heart attack or heart problems may end up being the cause of death, but we’ll have to wait for the autopsy reports to know for sure.

May the God of all comfort please comfort his family fully right now during this sudden and tragic loss. So unexpected at a young age. We just never know.

Ron, you can tell Jesus he’s gay when you die and meet him face to face. Tell him inbetween begging that you’re not sent to hell…

Ron July 13, 2009 at 11:36 pm

– and as far as Jesus and homosexuality goes … he was about as homosexual as they come. He never married, he never dated or picked up women, never bedded Mary Magdalene when he had the chance to, and he only seemed to associate with his posse of 12 male disciples including John, his “beloved” one.
Gimme a break — LMAO!!

Ron July 13, 2009 at 11:27 pm

I already said that one of the benefits that belief in an afterlife serves, is that it keeps the majority of the population in check — because if there was definite proof that there is NO afterlife, morals would fly out the window, and crime and debauchery would prevail worldwide. But there is NO SUCH PROOF that there is an afterlife, or there is not one. And people who discredit the deity of Jesus and the belief in an afterlife are not “evil” you stupid naive ass Christian — they are probably more intelligent than you will ever be.

C Boys July 4, 2009 at 10:12 am

It’s funny how people know Abraham Lincoln existed, also Julius Caesar and Socrates existed too. No debates here.

But when it comes to Jesus Christ, there’s a mystery. There’s a mystery because his existence condemns the evil people in this world.

If the evil people in the world say Jesus doesn’t exist, then there’s nothing wrong with cheating on their wife, stealing, having a homosexual relationship, etc. There are no rules, there’s no hell, do whatever you want.

Unfortunately Jesus did exist, there is a Heaven and Hell, and someone posting on a bulletin board that they don’t believe it, doesn’t change the fact that Jesus, Heaven and Hell all are real.

If you don’t believe it or don’t care, it doesn’t matter. When you die, you’ll meet Jesus and face your judgement. Good luck….

Ron June 26, 2009 at 1:36 am

Hey, Michael Jackson — Farrah Fawcett — and Ed McMahon … has Jesus opened heaven’s gate for you yet, or do you have to take a number and wait at the end of the line?

Ron June 22, 2009 at 11:29 pm

I wasn’t responding to you past the first two sentences of my last post. I’m addressing the “born again Christians” as a whole — and I believe that I AM “staying on track” as you put it, because I seem to find myself repeating the same things over and over again.

Emet June 20, 2009 at 7:02 pm

Dear Ron,

Your reply is quite vexing. The rationality of your response in regard to what I wrote is simply irrational. The issue at hand, being… “The existence of God”. was hardly addressed, and I find your approach to be disrespectful.

You brought up Christianity when I told you that I was not a Christian. You speak of hell, when I told you my motivation was compelled by love.

Debating the existence of God in my writing to you was not based on either of the above… stay on track my friend.

If you wish to continue to dialogue, I will do it on the basis of intellectual honesty and respect.

I will need to set a few boundaries with you Ron, if you wish to dialogue with me.

1. Stay on point and address/answer my questions/statements line by line as I will reciprocate.

2. No personal attacks or disrespect as again I will reciprocate.

If you wish to respond in such fashion, I would be more than happy to continue, if not, no harm done.

All the best,

Emet

Carol June 20, 2009 at 9:45 am

Emet, thanks for sharing the video of Danny. My husband and I were blessed to see him perform seven weeks before his death. What a joyful presence he was!

Ron June 19, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Shalom?
Are you Jewish? If so, according to the Christians here you are going to hell because you do not recognize and accept Christ as your saviour.
I said before that I do not know whether there is a God or not, but putting the known facts into perspective,I’m more inclined to believe that there is not.
Perhaps there are multiple gods, and the Christians go to Jesus or Satan when they die, while the Muslim Jihadists get their virgins in the afterlife upon blowing up innocent bystanders with their suicide bombs. Any thing is possible you know. I just don’t find it all very probable. People can believe what they choose to — I’m not trying to persuade them to my rational way of looking at things. I’m just telling you all to USE YOUR BRAINS for a change — poke holes in your “faith” — and then tell me if it all still makes sense to you, or if you reluctantly realize there’s a damn good chance that Darwin and the scientists of today are holding the winning hand.

Emet June 19, 2009 at 2:45 am

Shalom Ron,

I am not a Christian and my motivation for my belief in God is not fear. I had heard someone once say “You should fear God as if there was no hell and love Him as if there is no heaven”.

In the richness of this statement there is the idea that if we can find a way to see through the veneer of the knowledge of man and our own preconceived and heavily biased view of who God might be, and… perhaps allow His true nature to come forth without the influence of popes. pastors and rabbis, you might be pleasantly surprised to have an encounter that will bring you the shalom that you are looking for.

Amigo, if you so desire to find truth, you must find it for yourself. You must put aside the bad dealings of the catholic church and the shortcomings of people in your life that you had expectations of holding to a higher standard of love and approach truth without bias.

You accuse many on this site of bias…. but Amigo, the same sword that you flail is also pointed at yourself.

Ron, I do believe in God… and you do not. We both have the right to our belief, but do you know it takes more faith to believe in what you believe? There is far more evidence that points to a creator than not.

You seem to use the word logic a lot. O.K., lets use some logic then:

God is all about faith and finding Him knowing Him, loving Him all requires faith.

so if we were to say that:

Finding God requires faith- but I will use logic to find a God of faith= 0 probability of finding Him.

However, if you approach Him with humility and faith and ask Him to reveal himself to you… He will!

Bye the way, do you know the story of how Danny Gans became an entertainer… if not, watch this interview…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEm7cmqWvPI

All the best,

Emet

Overflowing with Hope – Part 1 05.2009

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope… May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Rom 15:4,13

God is the God of hope. The purpose of the Scriptures that he has inspired is to give us hope. God wants us who know him to overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hope can be defined as “a good expectation of the future”. Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines hope as “a confident feeling about what will happen in the future.”

Hebrews 11:1 explains that we can not have faith without hope. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Since God wants us to pray with faith, we must first have hope. When we overflow with hope, we can also pray with faith and see answers to our prayers.

The whole world today is desperately looking for hope. This week we saw a huge poster hanging outside of a souvenir store here in Israel, with the word HOPE written under a picture of President Obama. Man can not live without hope. Hope is the last thing to die.

Much of traditional Evangelical/Pentecostal/Charismatic teaching about the end times has unfortunately tended to produce a lot of fear and uncertainty in people, rather than “a good expectation of the future”. Since God is a God of hope and he wants us to overflow with hope, we need to take a serious look at what the Scriptures really teach.

Whereas the Scriptures view the return of the Messiah as a judgment of all evil and a takeover for the kingdom of heaven, the main feature of popular teachings like the best selling “Left Behind series” is, just as the title itself indicates, one of escape. There is no future for this world and you do not want to be left behind in it. But the hope of the believer is not that we one day will leave, but that the Messiah will come! It is foremost not an air lift to safety, but a transformation into immortality. The rapture is about us being caught up in the air to meet the Messiah when he comes to Jerusalem, so that we will be with him forever. It is about us being changed to be like him. Nowhere does the Bible say that we will be transported to heaven as our final destination in the rapture.

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed… we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Rom 8:18-19,23-24
The Hope of the First Believers

In Justin Martyr’s book Dialogue with Trypho the Jew, written in the second century, the Jewish rabbi Trypho asks Justin Martyr,

“…do you acknowledge for a truth that this place Jerusalem will be rebuilt, and expect that your people will be gathered together and rejoice with Christ, together with the patriarchs and the prophets, and the saints of our race, or even of them who became proselytes, before your Christ came…?”

Justin replies,

“I have acknowledged to you earlier that I and many others do hold this opinion, even as you also know well that this is to take place… I, and all other entirely orthodox Christians, know that there will be a resurrection of the flesh, and also a thousand years in Jerusalem built up and adorned and enlarged, as the prophets Ezekiel and Isaiah, and all the rest, acknowledge.

“And, further, a man among us named John, one of the apostles of Christ, prophesied in a Revelation made to him that they who have believed our Christ will spend a thousand years in Jerusalem, and that afterwards the universal, and, in one word, eternal resurrection of all at once, will take place, and also the judgment.” End quote

We see here that one hundred years after the resurrection, according to Justin Martyr, all “entirely orthodox Christians” shared the exact same hope as the Jewish people! It is a hope centered on Jerusalem and the millennial reign of the Messiah over the nations. It is a message of resurrection and the transformation of this world, not of escape from this world. Unfortunately traditional evangelical/Pentecostal eschatology has managed to turn the biblical message about our future hope upside down. What a tragedy this is!

Papias, who was a disciple of the Apostle John, preached the same message as Justin Martyr. So did Irenaeus, Tertullian, Hippolytus, and others. Irenaeus taught the Jewish apocalyptic view that the world will last seven thousand years, or “seven days”, and that the seventh will be the Sabbath before the eternal state begins. At the end of the sixth millennium, evil will reach a climax through the antichrist, who will be destroyed when Yeshua returns to set up the kingdom.

……….

This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Messiah Yeshua. I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Messiah [that also the Gentiles have a share in the promises in him given to Israel]. Eph 3:6-8

In these last days it is extremely important that we return to the apostolic gospel and the original hope found in the Messiah! Biblical hope is centered on the coming of the Messiah and the restoration of Jerusalem. This must once again become the focus of our hope and prayers in faith in these last days. Zechariah 12:9-10 gives us a direction for our prayers at this time,

On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem. And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

We are called to be watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem until it becomes the praise of the earth. Isaiah 52:8 says,

Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the LORD returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes.

And in Luke 12:37 Yeshua promises,

It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.
God as Creator

Biblical hope is based on the fact that God is the Creator of everything. When God had finished his work of creating, it says, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” (Gen 1:31) It does not say that what God created was bad, but that it was good. Like we wrote earlier we are looking forward to the transformation of this world, not an escape from it! Our glorious hope is not that we will leave, but that the Messiah will return in power! It is a hope of restoration and victory for God and the total defeat of Satan and all evil.

The Greek mindset, where there is an opposition between the material and the spiritual worlds, and that only the unseen spiritual realm is good, which is at the foundation of both St Augustine’s and Darby’s eschatology, is unscriptural. Yeshua taught us to pray for the Kingdom to come and for God’s will to be done on earth, just as it is in heaven. He never taught us to pray that God would take us from the earth to his kingdom.

Habackuk 2:14 says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” And Revelation 11:15 describes the glorious hope that we are to look forward to, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.” This glorious expectation is somehow removed from the focus among the “Left behind” proponents, or it is at best viewed as of secondary importance. The main focus is that we disappear and go to heaven. Nowhere is this ever taught in the Bible!! The Bible rather talks about “entering the kingdom of God,” “inheriting the kingdom of God,” “seeing the kingdom of God,” “receiving the kingdom of God,” “waiting for the kingdom of God,” “having an inheritance in the kingdom of God,” “being worthy of the kingdom of God,” “receiving a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord,” etc, etc.

Rhonda. I love your comments. Fear has torment. Love is liberating. God is Love.

Ron June 12, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Regarding the belief in a “higher power” — not necessarily a religious belief, but the belief that one is a functional part of a greater overall machine.

“Success is a continuing thing. It is growth and development. It is achieving one thing and using that as a stepping stone to achieve something else. Success comes as you have confidence in yourself. Self confidence is built by succeeding, even if the success is small. It is the believing that makes it possible.
No man succeeds without faith. Whether you call it religious faith or label it something else. I don’t feel anything worthwhile is accomplished without it. When you believe there is a Supreme Being guiding the destiny of this universe and that within each of us there is a little part of that Being, then you will have faith in yourself, in your country, in that Supreme Being, and in humanity itself.”

I find it interesting that people who are not Christians are so quick to speak of how Christians FEEL….Saying that we are motivated solely by the fear of Hell and eternal damnation. This is ridiculous….The opposite is true…..We are far more motivated to serve and follow our Great God due to the love and gratitude that we feel for the generous and priceless sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ. Faith and our beliefs are not fear based but rather based on and motivated by LOVE. I expect that this statement will BAFFLE you since you are clearly missing the love of Christ in your life…and certainly you will laugh at this statement and have some type on “intellectual” come back to put me down for explaining this perspective to you. I pray that some day you will know this love in your life…the love that GIVES life.

My condolences to the Gans family!

Kate June 11, 2009 at 2:23 am

Ron,

Please just go away and be hateful toward Christians somewhere else. You obviously enjoy all of this attention and debate and it makes you feel far superior to anyone who lives by faith… And feeling superior and “smarter” is why you do this in the first place…and why you must have the “last word”. How sad for you to need to do that. You must feel very insecure about yourself.

Your comments in reference to whether this is a place to remember Mr. Gans (cards shuffle haha etc) are rude, hard and insensitive. The world would be a kinder gentler place without the attitudes of people like of you. Im sure you will reply to this but you will be wasting your time with whatever “witty” remarks you post because I wont be back to read them…but go ahead because it will make you feel good to do it….proving my point…

To the Gans family, my most sincere sympathies for your loss. May Mr.Gans rest in peace and be fondly remembered by all who loved him as a man who lived and walked in his faith.

Carol June 9, 2009 at 7:19 pm

Ron, I made a typo in my first post about eternal consequences. I noticed the mistake just as I hit enter to post the first comment. That’s the reason I posted essentially the same comment twice. I’m certainly not scared of spending eternity in hell. I will spend it in the presence of God and everyone else who has trusted in the blood of JESUS CHRIST! Alleluia!

Carol June 9, 2009 at 7:01 pm

For all of those still wondering about the autopsy results, here’s a current link: http://usatoday.com/life/people/2009-06-09-vegas-gans-death_N.htm?csp=34.

Ron June 8, 2009 at 5:46 pm

“Fire insurance for hell” — that about nails it. Christians are scared of the possibility that hell may actually exist, and they want that insurance policy to be in effect when they die. Of course, nobody knows if there’s a payoff — but they want that coverage — just in case. Don’t bother to stop and THINK just how ridiculous the logistics of all of this is … just go with the flow. Follow the rest of the lemmings into the flying saucer. We’ve translated our Bible to our satisfaction … TO SERVE MAN.

Ron June 5, 2009 at 12:16 am

I don’t know what happened to Danny Gans either. Perhaps he had some congenital defect all the time that finally took him out, like whatever happened to John Ritter and the little girl from the Poltergeist movies.
The reason I changed the flow of the discussion way on back, was to see if I could get this troupe of lemming Christians to THINK about the substance, or rather NON substance of their faith. I’ll say it again. You Christians are plain and simple AFRAID of “burning” eternally in hell, more than you are of trying to get yourselves into heaven to sit on a cloud and play a harp. The girl who posted the same basic statements twice in a row ends on this in BOTH of her posts.
“The consequences, either way, will have eternal consequences” and “Either way, the consequences are eternal.”
She’s SCARED of spending eternity in hell, and she thinks that EVERYBODY naturally should be scared of this right along with her. You think those flames of hell are going to hurt you and char you like barbecued meat? Does your “soul” have nerves and pain centers like your body does? Even if it did, do you think that “God” is so sadistic that he’s going to allow someone to feel such a horrendous pain forever, like a psycho who gets his kicks pulling wings off of insects? Simply because you didn’t “praise” him, and accept him as your “saviour”? Is he that one track minded? “I’m Jesus, and I want you to praise me. Or I’m gonna throw a goddamn tantrum and toss you into a barbecue pit when you die. That’ll show your heathen ass!” What are you going to do all day once you get into heaven? Praise Jesus all day? Is he that egotistical that he wants you to just praise him forever for creating you, and for dying for your sins? Get over it, already!! Think of how utterly ridiculous this all is. I repeat — use your “God” given brain.

Tim June 3, 2009 at 9:45 pm

I have read all of these comments and find a stimulating debate that will never be resolved, but the reason I came to this site was in an effort to find out what was the cause of Danny Gans death. Has that been determined? He was a great entertainer and seemed to be a fine person. I saw his show twice and would have gone again. He was relatively young and supposed to be in good health. When will we know what happened?

ME June 3, 2009 at 1:32 pm

Oh…BTW…let’s not forget the basis of this stream of chatting…GOD Bless Danny Gans’ soul and his family’s while they mourn their loss…

ME June 3, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Ron…Ron…Ron!

I am not going to criticize you…

I am not nearly the Christian I should be…

But I do know that I am going to heaven…

Maybe when you are at the Pearly Gates I will wave hello!

tom June 3, 2009 at 10:53 am

Ron,
Out of respect – some people just keep their mouth shut as long as they are not hurting anyone.
Try it sometime.

Sue June 1, 2009 at 1:18 am

If I might bring things back on track here. I regret not seeing Danny Gans when he was with us.

Dale May 31, 2009 at 11:21 pm

Ron, I totally agree with all that you have stated about the
final fairytale! You have articulated it perfectly! People
CANNOT accept the fact that they will be OBLITERATED FOREVER!
Religion is purely superstition and nonsense. It’s all made-up silliness. Man created god in man’s image, not the other way around. There is NO PROOF of the existence of ANY god anywhere. We did not exist before we were born and we won’t exist after we die. The human body is a biological machine. When the body dies there is NO spirit that leaves it and goes ANYWHERE! It just dies and it’s ALL OVER!! The
entire concept of needing a savior is CRAZY and born out of
FEAR and IGNORANCE!! Oh, by-the-way, Mary was NOT a virgin
when she conceived Jesus! (human virgin birth is IMPOSSIBLE)
She was crossing the desert to visit her cousin Elizabeth when she was raped by Arabs and became pregnant. In those
primitive times it was a disgrace for a woman to be raped so
she made up that ridiculous story about god putting the baby
inside her. Her cousin had made up a similar story because she had a baby late in life, and that’s where Mary got the
idea. That is the TRUTH about the “immaculate conception.”
Now, watch all the nuts come out of the woodwork! Well, Ron,
take care and don’t waver! There are many, many people that
agree with you and choose rationality over snakes and naked
ladies!

Carol May 31, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Jesus Christ is the biggest mover and shaker of all time. Check out “One Solitary Life” on-line, and be inspired. For those of you who wonder why Christians are moved to defend our beliefs, we are so grateful to have found our Savior, Jesus Christ, and want to share the Good News. We all have the free will to accept or reject Christ. Either way, the consequences are eternal.

Carol May 31, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Jesus is still the biggest mover and shaker of them all!! Consider reading “One Solitary Life,” and you will have some inkling why this is so. Some of you ask why this matters, and why Christians feel so strongly about defending our beliefs. The decision to accept Christ as your personal Savior is the most important one you will ever make. The consequences, either way, will have eternal consequences.

Mike May 28, 2009 at 7:49 pm

Internet religion debates, wow! A Man dies and everyone goes into a religion frenzy. This site was supposed to be centered around the death of Danny Gans, not who believes in God and who doesn’t. Simple fact, approximately 88% of America believes in God, 12% does not. Although I do not agree with Ron’s views on God or no God, he makes one excellent point. Wars have been fought for eons over religious beliefs. Do you see what is happening here? All of you although not at war, are having a heated debate over religion. Those who believe are never going to convince those who don’t and vise versa. Let it go already. As for Danny Gans, I saw his show last November and he was superb! He was a truly talented person and is a headliner on the Vegas strip who will be greatly missed!

Steve May 27, 2009 at 7:45 pm

And by the way, Danny Gans. What a great entertainer and great person. I saw him in Vegas and really enjoyed. He will be missed.

Steve May 27, 2009 at 7:41 pm

……Something called the multiverse hypothesis, in cosmology suggests that life MAY have popped up here accidently, without divine intervention. If the mathematical odds of life developing in a universe are 1 in 100 billion, and say there are 100,000 billion galaxies then maybe we can be explained by math and science and not something else??

Steve May 27, 2009 at 7:15 pm

After reading every post, I agree with EVERYONE. You believe what you believe. Who cares what other people think? Everyone is entitled to freedom of religion, right? Something I never understood about religion….. about satan, he was an angel??? That turned against god??? Seems strange?? So once you make it to “heaven”, then it’s possible to be sent to hell?? Why would an almighty, powerful god give the devil so much power? If god created something evil like the devil, why give him his own place?? Strange stuff, and sort of seems make-believe like the tooth fairy to me. I don’t know much but Einstein was on to something with Quantum physics, makes more sense than religious make-believe to me.
