Buy a RedBox Machine Franchise – RedBox Says Business Owners with More Than 15,000 Customers Can Buy One…

by Paula Mooney on May 5, 2009

I just love the little RedBox video rental machines near the Giant Eagle grocery stores here in Akron, Ohio.

Last night I rented Hotel for Dogs for our whole family to watch. I turned it back in this morning then picked up Bishop TD Jakes’ Not Easily Broken movie that I’ve been wanting to see.

Cost? Only $1.07 per movie, if you turn them in on time.

Update: Redbox has changed their online application form — I can’t find it anymore! Obviously they were inundated with queries. But I did get the Redbox application form emailed to me. Let me know in the comments section if your business received a RedBox!

I’m a retailer. How can I get a redbox kiosk installed in my store?

Before a redbox kiosk is installed, an analysis of a location’s suitability needs to be done. Click here to find out the information Redbox wants to know.

Who can I contact if I’d like to discuss business opportunities with redbox?

Please use the Redbox application form and email it to Redbox via the address provided.

Where can I buy a RedBox machine franchise?

That’s what I thought when I finalized my rentals, so I came home to Google it.

Finally, I discovered on RedBox’s website at RedBox.com under their How to Get a RedBox section that they do have a form that business owners serving at least 15,000 customers can complete online to possibly get a RedBox machine installed near their stores.

Cool.

But whether this is an outright purchase of a RedBox machine franchise or what kind of money split is offered by RedBox — a company out of the lovely Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois — I don’t know.

I wonder how much those machines cost? I wonder how much income they take in, based on the foot-traffic of the location.

Very interesting…

Is that You, Jesus my Lord? I see your tag is “The Answer” ;-) — anyway, thanks much for the answer to what many folks have asked about Redbox ownership, or rental, as it were.

Are you a Redbox owner/renter yourself?

Thanks again, this really helps a lot of folks!

Hello Interested investors… RedBox is a company that will pay you a commision based monthly income. Contary to some beliefs RedBox is not a Franchise style business. As a owner of a business you must have some prereqs. before considering to apply for a storefront RedBox unit. Some of the needs you must have; 50,000 worth in foot traffic, visibility, a prime location to place unit (around 12sq. feet). If approved a commision based on sales will be paid to you by RedBox. So, what does it cost you? Well the unit will not cost you, what will is your location realestate, and you might need to work out a deal for power the unit. Any problems with the unit will be taken care of by the mobile techs of RedBox. What does this mean to most… Big box/ anchor stores will be the first ones to have these units Example: WalMart, Krogers, Ralphs, 7-11, and such. Don’t be discouraged if you can pull off attracting heavy traffic, well it is in the favor of both RedBox and you… Once again we see LOCATION, Location, location… hope this helps…

I want to know how much is a REDBOX MACHINE and the procedure to bring one. I’m from PR and some places do not have that machines that a lot of people like to have one or two there.

JetMonkey December 28, 2010 at 10:33 pm

The best you can do if you want to capitalize on this “RedBox” frenzy, is buy CoinStar stock. It trades on the Nasdaq, ticker symbol CSTR.

Bob Cannardly December 11, 2010 at 3:17 pm

You cannot buy a redbox machine, if your business has enough customers, redbox will install THEIR machine there and they will pay the location for use of the site. The machine is owned and maintained, stocked etc by RedBox.

vik1 August 4, 2010 at 12:31 pm

can you be a middle man and look for businesses with a large customer base and make a contract with redbox along with a busniess owner to open up a redbox and make a percentage?

Ahmad March 15, 2010 at 8:30 pm

I currently have 9 red boxes in all my loctions and I have to say I am happy with the offer they have givin me and also the customers base increased by 30 percent because of redbox.

Melanda March 5, 2010 at 11:00 am

You can’t “buy” a redbox machine. Nor do they offer franchise programs. Coinstar, after buying out McDonald’s stake in Redbox, owns and operates every single Redbox machine. Local people who maintain Redboxes on-site are employees of Redbox; Not independent contractors or franchisees.

The only way you can have a Redbox at your location, is if you lease or own a location with heavy amounts of foot traffic (like 10,000 or more in weekly foot traffic). What Redbox will do is possibly set up a lease agreement with a location owner for space in their store. Redbox won’t cut a percentage of their sales with the property owners. But at most, offer to pay competitive rent for the location. But they will maintain, operate, supervise, and own the Redbox kiosk.

If you don’t own or lease a heavily trafficked location, there is no way you can get a Redbox.

can anyone tell me how to buy several redbox locations

Tom Bellamy June 2, 2009 at 9:47 pm

Call McDonald’s, headquartered in Oak Brook, IL. Redbox in OakBrook Terrace, IL is a subsidiary of McDonald’s. They own all the equipment & simply pay you a lease.
