I just held my breath a bit as I read that Amazon has ended their Amazon Associates deal with about 25,000 California affiliates.
I guess those of us in other states are relieved that it’s not us this time, but that made me all the more determined to write about Chris Guthrie, a guy who made over $103k in 2010 from referring Amazon products via their Amazon Associates program and via other online sources — plus his tip for possibly getting around the getting kicked out of Amazon’s referral program and still getting paid thru them by creating a registered agent in another state.
Disclaimers abound here — I don’t know if that works, and I don’t even know if it’s legal, because I haven’t delved that far into researching it, but I just wanted to offer hope to all these Amazon Associates in California and Illinois and other states that have been kicked out — ones that may have been making a pretty penny with the program.
The comments about the California Amazon Associates kick out are flowing into the OC Register, so I hope these people can find hope and see the advantage in the darkness — a way to look for a positive, by hopefully still being able to still make money with all the folks who aren’t willing to go farther with trying to stay in the program now out.
Let me know in the comments section below if you’ve tried the registered agent thing and if it works. You can try and leave the comment anonymously — but be warned, you know anybody can be tracked down via their IP address if the person looking has enough “ish” and power to do so.
I’m just interesting in how this whole online sales tax Amazon Associates thing is gonna shake down…
